The expansion of FABCOM and the establishment of the air filter plant signal growing opportunities in Algeria's automotive supply chain. International investors should explore partnerships with local manufacturers like FABCOM to capitalize on the increasing demand for locally produced automotive components. Monitoring Algeria's trade agreements with African nations will be crucial to assess export opportunities for these manufacturers.

Minister of Industry Yahia Bachir inaugurated two industrial units in Oum El Bouaghi province on Thursday, April 23, 2026, underscoring the government's focus on bolstering local manufacturing. The Minister, accompanied by the Governor of Oum El Bouaghi, Benabdallah Chaib Eddour, and local civil and military authorities, visited the municipalities of Ain M'lila and Ouled Kacem. The facilities include an expansion of SARL FABCOM NEW TECH BATTERIES PLUS in the industrial zone of Ain M'lila and a vehicle air filter manufacturing unit.

The expansion of FABCOM, a leading battery manufacturer in Algeria, represents a strategic move to enhance the country's electro-mechanical industries. FABCOM, established in January 2011, has become a key player in the Algerian automotive sector. The company has a daily production capacity of 3,000 units and employs 168 people. Minister Bachir emphasized the importance of increasing production volume and continuously elevating the rate of local integration.

The FABCOM facility specializes in manufacturing batteries for all types of vehicles, aligning with Algeria's strategy to diversify its industrial base. The Minister noted that conforming to European standards has become a priority for Algerian factories. FABCOM has already successfully exported its products to several African countries, showcasing the competitiveness of Algerian-made goods. The company has been referenced by Motrio, Renault's aftermarket brand, with all Motrio batteries being manufactured by FABCOM.

Minister Bachir highlighted the importance of local integration in reducing reliance on imports and achieving economic sovereignty. He stressed the need to expand domestic market coverage and develop subcontracting opportunities, supporting operators in accessing global markets. The Minister outlined the national strategy for the battery sector, emphasizing local integration and expansion into international markets.

Looking ahead, the focus will be on increasing the volume of production at FABCOM and continuously increasing the rate of local integration. Continued monitoring of FABCOM's export performance in African markets will be crucial to assess the competitiveness of Algerian products. Investors should monitor government policies related to local content requirements in the automotive sector, as these will directly impact manufacturers like FABCOM.
